GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo flag football team defended home turf on Tuesday night at College Stadium, knocking off Villa Maria 32-18. The Knights improve to 8-3 with the win, while the Vikings fall to 9-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Geneseo started the game with the ball, and put up an efficient drive down the field by going 66 yards over eight plays for a touchdown.The opening drive was capped off by a five yard touchdown pass on third down from sophomore quarterback Ella Koopman to freshmen wide receiver Natalia DiPalma.
- After back-to-back defensive stops, Villa Maria was able to answer back with a touchdown, but a stop by the Knights on the one-point conversion held the lead. The Knights answered right back on the ensuing drive, as Koopman found Carmella Motti in the back of the end zone for a 14-yard touchdown pass to go up 13-6.
- The Knights defense opened up the second half with a big defensive stop, then drove down the field to go up 20-12 as Koopman threw a pass in a tight window to Corina Dunn for a touchdown. Geneseo would go on to extend the lead to 14 points in the quarter and never look back.
- A second touchdown pass to Dunn and a rushing touchdown from DiPalma sealed the win for Geneseo, defeating the Vikings 32-18.
QUICK FACTS:
- Koopman threw for 107 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for 158 as the game's leading rusher.
- DiPalma added 58 yards on the ground, while catching four passes for 38 yards.
- Defensively, Emily McLouth posted a team-high eight flag pulls, while Fiyorina Daniel added seven.
