BROCKPORT, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo flag football team picked up a key Empire 8 victory at Brockport on Wednesday evening, defeating the Golden Eagles 21-13 to improve to 4-3 on the season and 2-1 in conference action.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Following a big fourth down interception on the opening drive by Malene Comeau, the Knights offense only needed one play to strike first as Ella Koopman found Kenna MacKenzie for a 66-yard touchdown on the opening play.
- Brockport was able to answer back in at the start of the second quarter, but the Geneseo defense came up with a stop on the conversion to hold the lead at 7-6. Later in the quarter, the Golden Eagles would finally jump in front, and earn a 13-7 advantage.
- The Knights were able to gain the momentum back before halftime, scoring the go-ahead touchdown with a minute left in the half. Koopman once again found MacKenzie, this time for a three-yard touchdown to make it a 14-13 lead going into the locker rooms.
- The highlight of the game came early in the third quarter, as the Knights defense forced a punt, where Natalia DiPalma received it and returned it 57 yards for a touchdown.
- Geneseo's defense continued to put the pressure on Brockport, as they shut out the home team for the entire second half to secure the 21-13 win.
