Box Score 2 CLERMONT, FL - The SUNY Geneseo softball team opened its doubleheader in Florida on Thursday afternoon with a dominant 14-0 victory over Westminster, then fell to Wisconsin-Whitewater in the second game, 14-6. The Knights move to 6-3 overall to start the season.
Geneseo didn't waste any time jumping ahead on Westminster, taking a 5-0 lead in the first inning.
Lauren Bieniek opened the scoring with an RBI single, then later in the inning
Bella Nadzan drove in two runs with a single of her own. The Knights continued their momentum into the third inning, where they extended the lead to 13-0.
Kaitlyn Schmitz highlighted the inning with a two RBI triple, while Geneseo combined for seven hits total in the frame.
Mikayla Bucci earned her second win of the season after pitching the full five innings allowing no runs on three hits. Geneseo posted a balanced offensive performance with six players recording two RBIs and nine tallying at least one hit.
Against Wisconsin Whitewater, Geneseo kept the offensive firepower going early as
Brooke Fraas led off with a triple, then Schmitz brought her home with in the next at bat with a single.
Ray Schumacher came up to bat next and drilled her second home run of the season, scoring Schmitz to make it a quick 3-0 lead. In the top of the third,
Molly Griffin kept the bats hot with an RBI double to extend the lead to 4-0. Unfortunately, Wisconsin-Whitewater found its rhythm and scored 10 unanswered runs.
Tara Brochu and Fraas came up with RBIs in the top of the sixth to cut the deficit down to four, but ultimately Geneseo couldn't complete the comeback and fell 14-6.
The Knights return to action tomorrow morning against the Milwaukee School of Engineering and Smith College.
