Softball's Season Comes To A Close After Falling 5-3 To St. John Fisher

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo softball team saw its season come to a close on Saturday, May 9, falling to St. John Fisher 5-3 in the Empire 8 Tournament at Vic Raschi Field. The Knights finish the season at 30-11, the program's seventh 30-win season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Cardinals got on the board first with a solo home run in the opening inning, but then Ray Schumacher answered with a bomb of their own to tie the score at 1-1.
  • While the Knights offense stalled, St. John Fisher was able to add a pair of runs in the third and sixth innings to make it a 5-1 advantage. However, Schumacher stepped up in the clutch once again for Geneseo, smashing a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth.
  • After stranding two runners on base in the top of the seventh, Geneseo went to bat to try and force extra innings. With two outs, Brooke Fraas ripped a single to right field, but the Knights couldn't keep the rally going and ultimately fell 5-3.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Schumacher hit three home runs in the tournament, including a grand slam against Sage in the opening game.
  • Molly Griffin went 2-3 at the plate in the game, while Nevaeh Ross and Gabriella Petroski combined to throw all seven innings on the mound.
