GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo softball team had four student-athletes pick up Academic All-District honors for earning a cumulative GPA over 3.50 and competing in at least 90 percent of contests or starting in over 66 percent for position players, with pitchers requiring at least 17 appearances or 35 innings pitched.
Ray Schumacher,
Gabriella Petroski,
Lauren Babich, and
Emily Sylvanus earned the honor for Geneseo.
Petroski, the Empire 8 pitcher of the year, finished the season with a 16-4 overall record, 2.92 earned run average and 1.17 WHIP to go along with 121 strikeouts in 124 2/3 innings pitched. Petroski was an incredible 12-1 in league play with a 1.77 earned run average, 0.94 WHIP, 11 complete games and 91 strikeouts in 79 innings. Petroski threw a no-hitter with a career-high 16 strikeouts Elmira on April 23 and adds Academic All-District to her posteason honors.
Schumacher, a First-Team All-Conference honoree, was stellar at third base and at the plate for the Knights this season. Schumacher hit .367 on the season with a team-high 16 doubles, to go along with six home runs and 34 RBIs. In the field, they recorded a .928 fielding percentage at third base all season, starting in 41 games for Geneseo.
Sylvanus, a Second-Team All-Conference honoree, played in 35 games for Geneseo in the outfield and primarily at the No. 2 spot in the order, hitting .343 on the season. Sylvanus recorded a team-high 24 walks, contributing to her .469 on base percentage. In the outfield, she recorded a .962 fielding percentage with just one error on the season.
Babich, a Third-Team All-Conference honoree, was second on the team in batting average this season at .383, posting a team-best 38 RBIs. In the field, Babich played first base for the Knights and put up an outstanding season with a fielding percentage of .981 on 211 chances with 194 putouts.Â
