Softball Drops a Pair of One-Run Games to Springfield

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fl. - Geneseo dropped both of their matchups against Springfield College during their third day in Florida, falling by scores of 4-3 and 1-0 on Monday at Hancock Park. The pair of losses moves the Knights to 3-3 on the season.

GAME 1 - Springfield 4, Geneseo 3
  • The Knights kicked off the game with four straight walks as sophomore catcher Tara Brochu brought in freshman infielder Gabriella Smith to give the team the early lead. Two batters later, senior infielder Iris Kahris drove in sophomore outfielder Tori Guary on a ground out to second to extend the lead in the top of the first. 
  • Springfield was able to string together some walks and effective hits to score three runs and take their first lead of the game in the bottom of the second. 
  • Geneseo didn't wait long to answer, with sophomore outfielder Hannah Recine hitting an RBI groundout to drive in freshman infielder Bella Nadzan and tie the game at three in the top of the third. 
  • The Pride were able to retake the lead in the bottom of the sixth on an error, and the Knights couldn't answer in the final inning as they fell to Springfield 4-3. 

GAME 2 - Springfield 1, Geneseo 0
  • Springfield got on the board early, bringing one run across the plate in the top of the first on a sac fly.
  • The Knights were unable to string together any runs despite getting players in scoring position in each of the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings and fell short in the second game of the doubleheader, 1-0.
  • Geneseo's senior pitchers Mattie Woodard and Elizabeth Eberhardt combined to allow one run over seven innings on five hits while striking out five as well. 

QUICK FACTS 
  • Senior outfielder Olivia Fazio finished with a team-high three hits on the day, collecting them all in the second game. 
  • Geneseo's pitchers allowed five runs over 14 innings on 14 hits while recording eight strikeouts over the two games.

The Knights will face Case Western Reserve University (9 A.M.) and Babson College (11:30 A.M.) on Tuesday in Haven, Fl.
