Box Score 2 PITTSFORD, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo first-years Kaitlyn Schmitz and Tara Brochu each hit their first collegiate home run as the Knights swept a doubleheader against host Nazareth on Wednesday afternoon.
GAME ONE - GENESEO 3, Nazareth 1
- The Knights jumped out to a two-run lead in the top of the first when Lauren Gulick doubled home Olivia Fazio and Leah VanDerwarker. Nazareth responded with a run in the bottom of the frame to cut the lead in half, 2-1.
- In the seventh, Schmitz added an insurance run, driving in Fazio with an RBI single to make it 3-1.
- Senior Mattie Klein earned her first collegiate win as she kept the Golden Flyer bats quiet, allowing just one run on three hits over four innings. Schmitz earned the save, tossing three innings of scoreless relief and striking out seven of her 12 batters faced.
GAME TWO - GENESEO 12, Nazareth 2
- Junior Audrey Minton opened the scoring in the third inning with an RBI single. VanDerwarker added a two-run double in the fourth to make it 3-0.
- Junior Iris Kahris triggered a five-run fifth inning, hitting an RBI single and stealing home later in the frame. First-year Hannah Olejniczak recorded an RBI single before VanDerwarker blasted a two-run home run to make it 8-0.
- Nazareth scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth to extend the game, but Schmitz popped a solo shot to left in the sixth and Brochu added a three-run jack in the seventh to make it 12-2.
- Sophomore Sydney Bolton went 4.2 innings, allowing just two unearned runs to get the pitching victory while Elizabeth Eberhardt went 2.1 innings of scoreless relief.
