Box Score CORTLAND, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's lacrosse team came up short in their regular season finale as they fell to Cortland, 12-7. The Knights finished the season 8-7 overall and 6-1 in SUNYAC play to secure the No. 2 seed for postseason play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Junior midfielder William McCumiskey kept the Knights in it early on as he scored two goals in the first quarter. Geneseo and Cortland were tied at 2-2 heading into the second quarter.
- The Red Dragons were able to string together five unanswered goals in the second quarter and take control of the game heading into the second half.
- The Knights attempted to make a comeback as they outscored Cortland in the third quarter 3-2, but the lead was too much for Geneseo to overcome and they eventually fell 12-7.
QUICK FACTS
- McCumiskey led Geneseo with a season-high five goals. Sean Byrne and Kevin Cook each added one goal and one assist.
- Junior goalkeeper Mark Pav tallied 15 saves in goal.
- Senior Ryan Lee was dominant on faceoffs, going 11-17 and picking up three ground balls.
