GENESEO, NY: The SUNY Geneseo men's lacrosse team celebrated Senior Day with a 16-6 win against the Utica Pioneers. The Knights head into the post season in as No. 3 seed, with an overall record of 11-6 and conference record of 7-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Knights took a 6-2 lead over Utica in the first quarter, led by Ian Leahey who tallied a hattrick in the first 10 minutes of the game.
- Jacob Pensabene tallied his second goal to open the second quarter at 14:02, followed by Owen Ellick at 13:16 to extend the lead. Luca Schettino added one at the end of the second, sending the Knight into halftime leading 9-2.
- Schettino added another in the third quarter and was joined by Ryan Trebing and Aksel Stanat on the score sheet to make it 12-3. Pensabene then became the next Knight to record a hattrick against the Pioneers with his third goal at 3:36.
- Utica worked to close the gap with four goals in the second half, but were unmatched against the Geneseo offense and defense, who posted three more goals in the final quarter, defeating Utica 16-6.
QUICK FACTS:
- Jacob Pensabene led the Knights with three goals and two assists and sits at 28 points this season.
- Josh Knapp was a force on defense, tallying four caused turnovers and three ground balls.
- Ben Bradshaw recorded his 11th win of the season, making 11 saves in net.
