Box Score 2 CORTLAND, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo sophomore Rebecca Schwartz crushed a grand slam to left field in game one of the Knights' doubleheader at Cortland to lift the Knights to a victory as the two teams split the twinbill on Friday. With the game one victory, the Knights clinched the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) regular season title, top seed and the right to host the SUNYAC Tournament next weekend.
GAME ONE - GENESEO 8, Cortland 3
- Cortland plated one run in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead, but the Knights loaded the bases with a walk and two hit batsmen before Schwartz smacked her first career grand slam over the left field wall, giving the Knights a 4-1 lead.
- The Red Dragons cut into the lead with a run in the bottom of the second, but Taylor Riccardi added a sacrifice fly in the fourth and Audrey Minton added a two run single to make it 7-2. Iris Kahris scored on a wild pitch in the fifth to make it 8-2. Cortland scored one in the seventh but ran out of time as the Knights closed out the win.
- Lauren Kersch improved to 12-0 with a complete-game three-hit effort, allowing three runs, but only one earned run.
GAME TWO - Cortland 5, GENESEO 1
- The Red Dragons jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning, scoring a pair of runs on one hit and a walk.
- Geneseo cut the lead in half in the top of the sixth inning as Leah VanDerwarker led off with a double and came home two batters later when Kaitlyn Schmitz doubled her home.
- Cortland broke the game open in the bottom of the sixth, scoring three runs to extend the lead to 5-1.
QUICK FACTS
- Geneseo earned its second-straight regular season SUNYAC crown, finishing first in the amended SUNYAC West Division in 2021. The Knights will host the SUNYAC Tournament for the first time since 2018 when the team defeated Cortland to win the conference title.
- Fazio, VanDerwarker and Minton each recorded two hits in the two games combined while Schwartz finished with a team-high four RBI and Samantha Martz added a pair of runs scored.
- Geneseo could finish with the same regular season conference record as both Oneonta (12-4) and Cortland (12-4), but the Knights own the tiebreaker over both teams having earned sweeps of New Paltz, Brockport and Buffalo State earlier in the season.

The Knights (28-4, 14-2 SUNYAC) will travel to Oswego for the regular season finale with game times scheduled for 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
