Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's lacrosse team celebrated its senior day with a dominating win over Plattsburgh on Saturday afternoon. The Knights performed a brief senior day ceremony prior to the start of the game, where they honored the team's graduating class of 17 student-athletes.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams started out struggling to find the back of the net on offense, but just under 10 minutes into the action senior midfielder Sean Byrne broke the scoring drought off an assist from Liam Thompson. Byrne went on to add a second goal a few minutes later and then a goal from sophomore attacker Cole Bollin with 16 seconds left in the quarter made it a 3-0 game.
- Geneseo ran with the momentum they gained as they tacked on five more goals in the second quarter and continued to hold the Cardinals scoreless.
- Plattsburgh finally found their way onto the scoreboard in the third quarter, but a goal from senior attacker Kevin Cook kept the lead at eight goals for the Knights heading into the final 15 minutes.
- The Cardinals tacked on three goals in the fourth quarter, but Geneseo didn't allow any thoughts of a comeback as they scored three of their own to hold on for the 12-8 win.
QUICK FACTS
- Cook led the team in points with four on two goals and two assists, while Byrne and fellow senior Drew Liguori each tacked on three points.
- Junior goalkeeper Mark Pav earned his seventh win of the season by tallying 12 saves. Sophomore Trevor Bollinger also contributed to the strong defensive performance with a team-high three caused turnovers.
- Senior Ryan Lee was dominant at the faceoff, as he won 14 out of 16 faceoffs and put a game-high 11 ground balls.
