Box Score ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's lacrosse team traveled to the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) on Wednesday night to take on the defending national champions and second-ranked team in the country. The Knights defense held strong and gave the Tigers a battle, but they ultimately fell 14-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- RIT got off to a strong start in the opening quarter, as they scored in the first minute of action. Although the Knights bounced back from the early goal on defense, they couldn't find the equalizer and the Tigers added two goals in the final four minutes to take a 3-0 advantage.
- Geneseo's offense found some rhythm in the second quarter as senior midfielder Sean Byrne and senior attacker Kevin Cook tallied back-to-back goals. Unfortunately, the Knights couldn't close the gap any further and entered halftime trailing by four.
- Sophomore attacker Robert Boneillo opened up the scoring in the second half and cut the deficit to three goals, but then RIT tacked on four unanswered goals to make it a 10-3 advantage in the fourth quarter. Cook added his second goal of the game with nine minutes left, but Geneseo couldn't mount a comeback as the game came to a close.
QUICK FACTS
- Cook's two goals led the offensive effort for Geneseo, with Byrne and Boneillo adding the only other points.
- Ryan Lee won eight faceoffs for the Knights, and led the team in ground balls with four, while Kevin Leon and Trevor Bollinger chipped in three each.
- Mark Pav got the start in goal and had an impressive performance by talling 21 saves in the contest.
