Box Score 2 GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo sophomore pitcher Lauren Kersch and first-year pitcher Kaitlyn Schmitz each twirled a shutout as the Knights blanked New Paltz twice for a Saturday sweep of the Hawks at Raschi Field.
GAME ONE - GENESEO 3, New Paltz 0
- Lauren Kersch twirled a seven-inning complete game shutout, allowing just six hits and recording six strikeouts with no walks.
- Geneseo took the lead in the third inning when Schmitz lifted a single through the left side to plate junior Samantha Martz. Senior Taylor Riccardi doubled in Schmitz to make it 2-0.
- Sophomore Rebecca Schwartz added to the lead with a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning as the Knights took and held a 3-0 lead.
GAME TWO - GENESEO 8, New Paltz 0
- The Knights were held scoreless through the first four innings, but plated two in the bottom of the fifth. Leah VanDerwarker drove in Olivia Fazio with an RBI single before Hannah Olejniczak advanced home on a baserunning play to make it 2-0.
- In the sixth, the Knights sent 10 batters to the plate, scoring six runs on eight hits and one New Paltz error. Junior Iris Kahris walked off the game with an RBI single to make it 8-0 and give the Knights the run-rule victory.
- Schmitz twirled six scoreless innings allowing just three hits and ringing up three strikeouts.
