Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's lacrosse team remained unbeaten in SUNYAC action on Friday night as they earned a hard-fought 11-10 win over Oswego behind a strong second-half performance.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lakers were able to get on the board first to open the game, but the Knights quickly responded with three unanswered goals by Drew Liguori, Kevin Cook, and William McCumiskey. Geneseo took a 3-2 lead into the second quarter, with both of Oswego's goals coming in man-up situations.
- Oswego was able to carry some offensive momentum into the second quarter as they outscored the Knights 4-2. Cook and Sean Byrne tallied the goals for Geneseo in the quarter.
- Geneseo found themselves trailing by two goals less than a minute and a half into the third quarter, but Byrne quickly answered for Geneseo and brought it back to a one-goal game. Keegan Doller then followed it up with a goal of his own to tie the score, and then Tommy Devito battled for a faceoff win and took the ball all the way down himself to score and take the lead.
- With the score tied at 8-8 entering the final 15 minutes, Byrne tallied two goals and an assist to begin the fourth quarter to give the Knights an 11-8 advantage with eight minutes left. Geneseo was able to burn the clock down and hold on for the 11-10 win and hand the Lakers their first SUNYAC loss of the season.
QUICK FACTS
- Byrne led the offensive effort with five points on four goals and one assist, while Cook and Liguori each tallied three points on two goals and one assist.
- Junior Mark Pav earned his sixth win of the year in goal and tallied 13 saves on 23 shots faced.
- Senior Ryan Lee went an impressive 9-14 on faceoffs, while Trevor Bollinger tallied a game-high five caused turnovers.
