Box Score ONEONTA, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's lacrosse team opened up State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play on Saturday afternoon with a dominant 8-2 victory over Oneonta.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights wasted no time getting on the board as first-year attacker Jimmy Atkinson put away the first goal of the game just 60 seconds into the action. The Red Dragons quickly answered back to tie the game, but another goal from Atkinson and one from Christian Marcello, Jr. put Geneseo ahead 3-1 heading into the second period.
- Junior goalkeeper Mark Pav and the Knights defense didn't allow a goal for the final 28 minutes of the first half and were able to head into halftime with a three-goal lead after senior midfielder Sean Byrne scored with 1:16 remaining in the second quarter.
- Geneseo continued to dominate on both ends of the field and went on to only allow two goals as they opened up conference action with a 8-2 victory.
QUICK FACTS
- Pav tallied 14 saves on 16 shots faced to record his second-straight game with only two goals allowed.
- Atkinson, Marcello, Jr., and Byrne led Geneseo's offense with two goals each.
