Box Score THROGS NECK, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's lacrosse team earned its first win of the 2022 season in comeback fashion as they defeated Maritime, 8-7.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Privateers jumped ahead early on the Knights as they led 3-0 in the opening quarter. Senior midfielder Chris Martello netted the first goal for Geneseo with under a minute remaining in the quarter to get some momentum going for the offense.
- The Knights went on to score three goals in the second quarter to cut the deficit to just one goal heading to the second half. First-year attacker Jimmy Atkinson, senior attacker Kevin Cook, and senior midfielder Sean Byrne all scored for Geneseo.
- Maritime managed to maintain their lead throughout the third quarter as both teams scored twice, but the Knights defense stepped up in the final 15 minutes and shut out Maritime in the final quarter. Byrne found the back of the net twice in the fourth and junior goalkeeper Mark Pav tallied four saves to lead Geneseo to the win.

- Byrne and Cook led Geneseo offensively with three goals each, while Pav recorded 14 saves to get the win in goal.
- The Knights dominated face-offs, with senior Tommy Devito winning eight of 10 attempts and senior Ryan Lee winning five of nine.
- Geneseo is now 2-0 against the Privateers with both wins being decided by just one goal and a fourth quarter comeback. In 2019, the Knights scored twice in the final 68 seconds to secure the victory.
