Box Score LEESBURG, FLA. - SUNY Geneseo sophomore pitcher Lauren Kersch twirled a complete game and went 3-for-4 with three RBI to lift the Knights to a 7-3 victory over Edgewood (Wisc.) in their first game of the season on Saturday at Sleepy Hollow Athletic Complex in Leesburg, Fla.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Junior infielder Leah VanDerwarker opened the game with a triple before sophomore Rebecca Schwartz drove her in with a single. Two batters later, senior infielder Taylor Riccardi ripped an RBI single to drive in Schwartz, giving the Knights a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
- Edgewood came back to tie the game in the bottom of the second, scoring on a Geneseo error, but the Knights regained the lead in the third when Kersch drove in Riccardi with an RBI single. VanDerwarker added an RBI single in the fourth to put the Knights ahead, 4-2.
- The Knights added two more runs in the fifth inning as Riccardi and Kersch each drove in one, and tacked on another run in the seventh to extend their lead to 7-3.
QUICK FACTS
- Kersch allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits and rung up six strikeouts.
- Riccardi finished 3-for-4 with two triples and two RBI while senior catcher Katherine Hayes added a triple as well.
