GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's lacrosse team came up short in search of their first win of the 2022 season as they dropped a triple overtime decision to Clarkson, 9-8.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Senior attacker Kevin Cook got the Knights offense going as he scored three of the team's first four goals. Following Cook's goal to begin the second quarter, Geneseo held a 4-1 advantage over the Golden Knights.
• Clarkson quickly mounted a comeback in the second frame and tied the score at 4-4, but Geneseo got the final word before halftime as goals from senior midfielders Jake Steffen and Drew Liguori gave them a two-goal lead at the break.
• Junior goalkeeper Mark Pav and the Knights defense locked up Clarkson in the third quarter and shut them out to help the Knights make it a four-goal lead heading to the final 15 minutes.
• Once again the Golden Knights were able to get a comeback going and ended up tying the score with just over three minutes left to play. After two scoreless overtime periods, Clarkson netted the game winner in the third extra period.

QUICK FACTS

• Cook tallied five points to lead the Geneseo offense on four goals and one assist. Sophomore defender Trevor Bollinger led the defense with four ground balls and four caused turnovers.
• Pav played the whole game in goal for the Knights and tallied 24 saves on 33 shots faced.
• Three of the last seven matchups between Geneseo and Clarkson have now gone to extra time. The Knights earned an 8-7 victory in 2011, while Clarkson earned an 8-7 win of their own in extra time in 2016.
