Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo softball team celebrated its senior class, but it was first-year Lauren Kersch who nearly pitched a perfect game, leading the Knights to a split against State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) foe Buffalo St. on Tuesday afternoon at Vic Raschi Field.
GAME ONE - BUFFALO ST. 2, GENESEO 1
- Buffalo State jumped out to an early lead with a run scored in the top of the first, and added another run in the top of the fourth inning to take a 2-0 lead.
- Geneseo got on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning after sophomore infielder Olivia Fazio led off with a pinch-hit walk and came home three batters later when senior outfielder Samantha Seeger drove an RBI groundout to the right side, making it 2-1.
- The Knights threatened again in the bottom of the seventh, moving the tying run to second base, but could not manufacture a timely hit and fell to the Bengals by a run.
GAME TWO - GENESEO 2, BUFFALO ST. 0
- Lauren Kersch retired each of the first 19 batters she faced, twirling 6.1 innings without a hit or a walk. In the top of the seventh, a Buffalo State hitter blooped a pop up in front of the mound where Kersch just missed a diving try, knocking it away from the other defenders for an infield single, breaking up the perfect game.
- Sophomore infielder Audrey Minton drove a two-run home run over the left field fence in the first inning, providing all the offense Kersch needed to earn the victory.
