Box Score 2 GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior Nicole Schwartz and first-year Lauren Kersch combined to blank the Oswego Lakers in back-to-back games as the Knights earned a pair of victories over their State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) rival on Friday afternoon.
GAME 1 - GENESEO 7, OSWEGO 0
- Schwartz scattered six hits and recorded five strikeouts and did not allow a run as the Knights blanked Oswego in game one.
- The Knights plated five runs in the second inning to open up the game. Senior infielder Melissa Triolo led off with a double and came around to score two batters later when senior outfielder Angela Van Pelt drove a double to right field. Sophomore infielder Audrey Minton drove home two runs with a single and junior infielder Taylor Riccardi added a two-run double, giving the Knights a 5-0 lead.
- Geneseo added to its lead in the sixth inning when junior Katherine Hayes came in to score a dropped pop fly. Sophomore infielder Leah VanDerwarker and Riccardi executed a double steal on the next pitch, bringing Riccardi across the plate to make it 7-0.
- Schwartz closed out the game, retiring the Lakers in order in the seventh, to earn her fifth win of the year.
GAME 2 - GENESEO 6, OSWEGO 0
- Kersch befuddled the Oswego bats, allowing just four hits and one walk while recording six strikeouts to earn her third win of the season, and her second shutout of the Lakers.
- The Knights jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning as senior outfielder Rachel Mihlstin singled and came around to score on a passed ball. Minton added an RBI groundout and VanDerwarker roped an RBI double to left to extend the Knights' lead.
- Junior infielder Alexandra Koutsogiannis drove in a run in the third inning before senior outfielder Samantha Seeger added an RBI single later in the inning.
- Seeger notched a second RBI, a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning, to extend the Geneseo lead to 6-0, as the Knights added an insurance run.
- Kersch struck out the side in the seventh inning to complete the two-game shutout and season sweep of the Lakers.
