Softball Splits Another SUNYAC Twinbill with Brockport

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior infielder Taylor Riccardi recorded three hits, scored a pair of runs and drove in a run as the Knights split with visiting Brockport on Monday afternoon at Vic Raschi Field.

GAME 1 - GENESEO 3, BROCKPORT 2

  • The Knights opened up a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth. Sophomore infielder Audrey Minton reached base with a single and came around to score two batters later when Riccardi singled to center field. Sophomore utility Leah VanDerwarker drove in Riccardi with an RBI single up the middle to make it 2-0.
  • After four innings of scoreless pitching, sophomore pitcher Elizabeth Eberhardt let up two runs in the fifth but worked out of a jam to keep the game tied, 2-2.
  • In the top of the sixth, Brockport threatened again with the go-ahead run reaching second base, but senior pitcher Nicole Schwartz came in to shut down the Golden Eagles bats, recording an inning-ending groundout to quell the threat.
  • In the bottom half of the inning, senior outfielder Samantha Seeger led off with a single. Three batters later, Riccardi drove home Seeger with a single to center field, putting the Knights ahead, 3-2.
  • Schwartz shut down the Brockport bats again in the seventh inning to close out the victory.

GAME 2 - BROCKPORT 5, GENESEO 4

  • Brockport opened up a 2-0 lead in the top of the second, but the Knights cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the inning. VanDerwarker led off with a single, advanced to second on a wild pitch and came around to score when first-year pitcher Lauren Kersch laced a double to left.
  • Brockport took advantage of a Geneseo error to score a run in the fourth, extending its lead to 3-1, but the Knights took the lead in the bottom of the frame. VanDerwarker crushed a two-run home run over the left field fence and senior infielder Melissa Triolo added a pinch-hit RBI single, giving the Knights a 4-3 lead.
  • In the top of the sixth inning, Brockport strung together three hits and plated two runs to regain the lead, 5-4. Geneseo put the tying run in scoring position in the sixth and the seventh, but could not tie the game, falling by a run to the Golden Eagles.
