Box Score 2 GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo softball team split a pair of games against State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) rival Fredonia, defeating the Blue Devils, 3-2, in 10 innings in game one but fell, 3-1, in game two.
GAME 1 - Geneseo 3, Fredonia 2 (10 inn.)
- Geneseo fell behind in the fourth inning when the Blue Devils generated a run. Fredonia added a second run in the seventh to extend the lead to 2-0.
- In the bottom of the seventh, junior catcher Katherine Hayes led off with a single and junior infielder Taylor Riccardi followed with a single to put the tying run aboard with no outs.
- Two batters later, sophomore infielder Olivia Fazio drove home a run with an RBI single up the middle. Sophomore outfielder Leah VanDerwarker drove a sacrifice fly to deep right field to tie the game, 2-2.
- Geneseo held the Blue Devils scoreless for three frames, including the 10th which began with a runner on second (international tiebreaker rules).
- In the bottom of the 10th inning, senior outfielder Samantha Seeger began at second and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Audrey Minton. Two pitches later, Seeger came home on a wild pitch to end the game.
GAME 2 - Fredonia 3, Geneseo 1
- Fredonia opened the scoring with an RBI single in the first inning but Geneseo tied the game in the third inning with a run. First-year pitcher Lauren Kersch led off with a single and came around to score two batters later when first-year infielder Rebecca Schwartz drove her home with an RBI groundout to second base.
- Fredonia pulled ahead with single runs in the third inning and the fourth inning.
- The Knights had opportunities to tie the game, but could not generate a timely hit, leaving eight runners on base over the final four innings of the game.
QUICK FACTS
- Senior pitcher Nicole Schwartz earned the win in game one, twirling 8.2 innings and allowing just two earned runs on seven hits. Sophomore pitcher Maddie Woodard earned a hold, tossing 1.1 scoreless innings.
- First-year pitcher Lauren Kersch allowed two earned runs in four innings in game two, while sophomore Elizabeth Eberhardt tossed three scoreless innings of relief.
- Minton finished 2-for-4 in game one with the Knights' only extra-base hit of the day, a first-inning double.
- Riccardi and Seeger each recorded a hit in each of the Knights' games, while Schwartz, Fazio and VanDerwarker registered one RBI each.
