Men's Lacrosse Comes Up Short In Season Opener at St. John Fisher

PITTSFORD, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior midfielder Sean Byrne scored two goals as the Knights fell to host St. John Fisher, 10-6, in the season opener Saturday afternoon at Growney Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Cardinals struck first, but the Knights answered with two quick goals to take a 2-1 lead early in the first. Senior attacker Tim Fallo scored the first goal of the year for Geneseo off an assist from senior attacker James Pratt while senior midfielder Sean Byrne added the go-ahead goal.
  • After three straight St. John Fisher goals, the Knights executed a man-up advantage to draw within one goal to end the first quarter. Senior attacker Connor Griffin scored his first of the year off an assist from sophomore midfielder William McCumiskey.
  • St. John Fisher extended its lead to four goals, but Pratt netted a goal before the break as the Knights entered halftime trailing, 7-4. 
  • First-year attacker Robert Boneillo scored his first-career collegiate goal at the 10:35 mark of the third quarter, but the Cardinals held off the Knights' comeback attempts. 
  • Byrne tallied his second goal of the game in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough as the Knights fell, 10-6.

QUICK FACTS

  • Six Knights registered a point, while Byrne, Fallo, and Pratt each tallied a team-high two points. 
  • Four Knights tallied a caused turnover each while Pratt led the way with three ground balls. 
  • Sophomore goalie Mark Pav made seven saves on 17 shots faced in his first collegiate start.

The Knights (0-1) remain on the road as they travel to play Ithaca on Saturday, March 20th with faceoff set for 1:00 P.M.
