Men's Lacrosse Closes Regular Season With 10-4 Win At Potsdam

POTSDAM, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo sophomore attackman Tim Fallo totaled three goals and an assist while sophomore midfielder James Pratt added three goals as the Knights wrapped up the regular season with a 10-4 victory at Potsdam in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men's lacrosse, Saturday. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Potsdam opened the scoring in the fourth minute of the game, but Geneseo responded with three goals over the next seven minutes to build a 3-1 lead into the second quarter. 
  • Pratt notched his second goal of the game for a 4-1 Knights' lead with 11:42 left in the second before the Bears scored back-to-back tallies to cut the deficit to two, 4-2, with 6:56 left in the half. 
  • Fallo followed with two goals in less than a minute span to push the visitors back ahead by three, 6-3, with 2:34 on the clock. 
  • Potsdam scored with 47 seconds left in the half for a 6-4 score after 30 minutes of play. However, Geneseo held the Bears scoreless the rest of the game while tacking on four-unanswered goals to earn the victory. 
  • Sophomore attackman Connor Griffin scored the lone goal of the third quarter before Pratt, first-year attackman Connor Cook and first-year midfielder Chris Martello all found the net to seal the victory. 

GAME NOTES 

  • Geneseo rides a season-best three-game winning streak into the postseason and has won four of its last five games. 
  • The Knights finished the regular season with a 4-2 SUNYAC record for their best conference finish since compiling a 5-1 record in 2012. 
  • Geneseo out-shot Potsdam, 51-23, to overcome a 22-save performance by Bears' goalie Zach Sheridan. 
  • The Knights won 12-of-18 face-off, including 11-of-16 by first-year midfielder Ryan Lee
  • Geneseo finished with a 49-29 ground ball advantage, including a team-high seven by junior defender Augie Holekamp and well as five apiece by Fallo and Lee. 

WHAT'S NEXT 

Seeded third for the SUNYAC Tournament, Geneseo travels to second-seeded Plattsburgh on Wednesday (May 1) for a 4:00 p.m. semifinal matchup. Fourth-seeded Oswego heads to top-seeded Cortland in the day's other game with the winners advancing to Saturday's championship match at 1:00 p.m. on the campus of the highest remaining seed.
