Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

TROY, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo split a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) softball doubleheader with Oneonta, Saturday, played at Hudson Valley Community College.

The Red Dragons (6-9-1, 1-1 SUNYAC) won the opener, 4-2, before the Knights (12-6, 2-2 SUNYAC) rebounded for a 14-3 five-inning victory in game-two.

GAME 1 – ONEONTA 4, GENESEO 2

  • Geneseo jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the second inning. Junior catcher Hannah Elmer hit a lead-off single to centerfield and came around to score on a double to right center by junior designated player Ashlyn Kersch. After advancing to third on a ground out by senior pitcher Taylor Moore, Kersch scored on a passed ball for the early lead.
  • Oneonta limited the Knights to two hits the rest of the way while tying the game with two runs in the bottom of the fourth and scoring two more in the bottom of the sixth to earn the win.
  • Moore took the loss, surrendering four earned runs on six hits while striking out two in six innings of work.

GAME 2 – GENESEO 14, ONEONTA 3 (5 INN.)

  • Junior firstbaseman Abbey Whitney finished 3-for-3 with two home runs and six RBI while Kersch struck out five in six innings of work on the mound and went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored at the plate.
  • Geneseo opened the game with six runs in the first inning. Persich, senior catcher Taylor Fedor and senior leftfielder Danni Napoli led off with three-straight walks before Elmer plated two runs with a single to left field and Whitney cleared the bases with a home run over the left-centerfield wall. Kersch later came around to score on a Persich sacrifice fly for the final run of the inning.
  • Geneseo put seven more runs on the board in the second inning, kicked off by a solo home run by Whitney with one out. Kersch followed with a single before senior designated player Jasmine Petrishin reached on a fielding error and first-year third-baseman Taylor Riccardi was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Kersch came in after junior shortstop Brooke Wolff drew an RBI walk before Petrishin came across on a wild pitch. Fedor drew a two-out walk to re-load the bases before Napoli walked and Elmer was hit by a pitch to bring in two more runs. Whitney knocked a two-run single through the right side to complete the rally.
  • Petrishin led off the third inning with a solo home run over the left field wall to push the Knights to a 14-0 lead that proved insurmountable.
