Softball Earns A Pair Of Wins Over Framingham State, Benedictine

CLERMONT, Fla. - SUNY Geneseo sophomore pitcher Nicole Schwartz and junior pitcher Ashlyn Kersch each tossed three-hit shutouts as the Knights rolled to a pair of wins, defeating Framingham State, 3-0, and downing Benedictine (Ill.), 8-0). 

GAME 1 – Geneseo 3, Framingham St. 0

  • Sophomore pitcher Nicole Schwartz was perfect through four innings and twirled a three-hit shutout to lead the Knights to a victory.
  • Junior catcher Hannah Elmer ripped a two-run triple in the fourth, plating junior infielder Abbey Whitney and sophomore outfielder Rachel Mihlstin to give the Knights a 2-0 lead.
  • In the seventh, sophomore outfielder Samantha Seeger ripped a leadoff double to center and came around to score when senior outfielder Alyssa Persich grounded out to shortstop, making it 3-0.
  • Schwartz mowed down the Rams in order to finish the complete-game shutout.

GAME 2 – Geneseo 8, Benedictine 0 (5 innings)

  • Junior pitcher Ashlyn Kersch allowed just three hits over five innings as the Knights earned an 8-0 victory over Benedictine (Ill.) in their second game of the day.
  • First-year infielder Alexandra Koutsogiannis drove in Kersch with a double to the left field wall in the second inning to give the Knights a lead.
  • Geneseo tacked on three more runs in the third when senior outfielder Danni Napoli and Elmer each ripped RBI singles, extending the lead to 4-0.
  • Persich drove home a run with an RBI double in the fourth before Kersch hit an RBI single in the fifth and Koutsogiannis closed the game with a two-run double, extending the lead to 8-0, as the Knights run-ruled the Eagles. 

QUICK FACTS

  • Elmer hit her first-career triple in game one while Koutsogiannis knocked her first-career extra-base hit.
  • The Knights combined for five doubles and a triple over their two games, batting 16-for-48 (.333) in the two games combined.
  • Kersch and Schwartz combined to toss 12 innings, allowing just six combined hits, and improving the Knights' team ERA to 1.12 through four games.
