Softball Continues Win Streak with Sweep of Nazareth

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo first-year outfielder Rachel Mihlstin recorded a combined five hits while sophomore catcher Hannah Elmer tallied three RBI to lead the Knights to a pair of wins over Nazareth, taking game one, 4-3, and earning a game two victory, 7-5. 

GAME ONE

  • Geneseo took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning when Elmer blasted a double to right-center, driving in Mihlstin. 
  • The Golden Flyers tied the game in the bottom of the inning, but the Knights regained the lead in the top of the fifth when Elmer drove in Mihlstin again.
  • Nazareth scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 3-2 lead, but Geneseo took back the lead again in the sixth as sophomore outfielder Kate Luchowski and first-year outfielder Angela Van Pelt both came home on an error, making it 4-3.
  • First-year pitcher Nicole Schwartz finished her complete game by retiring the final six batters she faced, striking out six Golden Flyers to earn the victory, the first of her collegiate career. 

GAME TWO

  • The Knights took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Elmer lifted a sacrifice fly to score Mihlstin. Geneseo added two more runs in the third inning when Mihlstin laced a double down the left-field line, plating Luchowski and first-year infielder Hannah Marlowe
  • Nazareth scored a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the third inning to close the gap to 3-2. 
  • Geneseo added a run in the top of the fourth inning, but the hosts tied the game in the bottom of the fifth to make it 4-4.
  • Van Pelt and first-year outfielder Samantha Seeger each singled to begin a two-out rally in the sixth. The Knights scored three runs on three Nazareth errors to take a 7-4 lead.
  • The Golden Flyers scored one run in the bottom of the sixth, but junior pitcher Taylor Moore closed out the game to earn her 10th win of the season.

QUICK FACTS

  • Moore grabbed her 28th career win, tying her sister, Mikayla Moore '16, for ninth in program history.
  • Marlowe recorded her first-career collegiate hit, a single in the fourth inning of game two. 
  • Geneseo extended its winning streak to seven games and improved their record in the month of April to 13-1. 

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Knights will travel to Brockport on Saturday, April 28 for a conference doubleheader. With a win, the team would secure the top finish in the SUNYAC standings and would host the SUNYAC Tournament.
