Papagelos, Knights Cap Florida Trip with a Pair of Victories

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CLERMONT, FLA. - SUNY Geneseo junior Kylie Papagelos went 4-for-4 and scored the game-winning run in the Knights' second game as the team swept a pair of games on its final day in Florida. Geneseo earned an 8-0 five-inning victory over Ripon and then walked-off, 5-4, over Wisconsin-Stout.

GAME ONE

Junior Jasmine Petrishin twirled a complete-game two-hitter as the Knights shut out the Redhawks. Petrishin recorded a strikeout and allowed only one walk to earn the shutout, her second victory of the year.

The Knights got on the board in the first inning when junior Anna Merante drove in Papagelos with an RBI double. The squad added three more runs in the third when junior Taylor Fedor scorched a three-run double to left field, making it 4-0.

In the fourth, sophomore Brooke Wolff added a two-run triple while junior Alyssa Persich and senior Claire VanNewkirk each added RBI singles, to put the team ahead 8-0.

GAME TWO

The Knights took a 3-0 lead in the second inning when junior Taylor Moore drove home Fedor with an RBI single. Moore and sophomore Maddison Tucker came around to score three batters later when Papagelos ripped a two-run double to center field.

Stout scored twice in the third inning and once more in the fifth to tie the game, but the Knights regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Blue Devil committed errors on consecutive bunt plays, which allowed Papagelos to score the go-ahead run.

In the top of the seventh, Stout drove in a run with an RBI triple, placing the go-ahead run at third with no outs. After a weak pop out to third base, Tucker cut down the runner at home on a fielder's choice to keep the game tied. Moore worked her way out of the jam to give the Knights a chance for the walk-off win.

In the bottom of the frame, Papagelos led off with a single through the left side and junior Danni Napoli laced a double to the right-center gap. Merante executed a well-placed squeeze bunt that plated Papagelos for the game-winning run.

QUICK FACTS

Papagelos is batting .724 (21-for-29) with nine doubles and 10 RBI, matching her RBI total from the previous two years combined.

Moore improves to 5-0 on the season from the circle, and has allowed just 11 earned runs in 31.0 innings pitched for a 2.48 ERA.

Fedor leads the team with 11 RBI, and at .444, is one of nine Knights batting .375 or better.

WHAT'S NEXT?

Geneseo will return to New York and resume practice until Wednesday, March 28 when they host Alfred in a non-conference doubleheader.
