Softball Takes Two Against Nazareth

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo sophomore infielder Kylie Papagelos lifted a walk-off RBI single to give the Knights a 7-6 win in game one and sophomore pitcher Taylor Moore twirled a complete-game shutout in game two to lead the Knights to victory, 4-0, in a sweep of Nazareth.

GAME ONE
Sophomore outfielder Alyssa Persich finished 3-for-5 while junior infielder Julia Lalka batted 2-for-3 with two RBI. Starting pitcher first-year Ashlyn Kersch allowed six runs on nine hits over five innings and did not factor in the decision while Moore earned the win with three scoreless innings in relief.

The Knights took a 3-0 lead in the second inning when Lalka laced a two-run single to left field. Junior Tori Fahie came home to score on an RBI groundout by first-year Hannah Elmer as Geneseo took a three-run lead.

Nazareth tied the game at 3-3, scoring two runs in the third and one in the fourth, but the Knights regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Persich ripped an RBI single, bringing home first-year pinch-runner Kate Luchowski to make it 4-3. Geneseo added two more runs in the fifth on an RBI groundout by Kersch and an RBI single off the bat of Fahie, making it 6-3.

In the sixth, Nazareth loaded the bases to chase Kersch, and brought home three runs on three hits to tie the game. It took the Knights until the eighth inning to plate the winning run. Lalka reached after taking a pitch off the elbow, and moved to second on a Persich single. Papagelos then flipped a Texas-leaguer single over the first baseman, bringing home pinch-runner first-year Brooke Wolff for the winning run.

GAME TWO
Geneseo's top third of the batting order made up of Persich, senior outfielder Alyssa Presutti, and sophomore outfielder Danni Napoli combined to go 7-for-9 from the plate as the Knights earned the victory.

Persich and Presutti led off the bottom of the first with back-to-back singles before Napoli laced a double over the right-fielder's head for the team's first run. After a double play, first-year Maddison Tucker doubled to score Napoli. The Knights added two more runs on a pair of Nazareth errors to make it 4-0 after the first frame.

From there, Moore held the Golden Flyers scoreless, scattering six hits and ringing up three strikeouts to keep the visiting offense at bay. The game marked her third complete-game shutout of the season and her second in her past two starts. Moore has not allowed an earned run in 17.0 consecutive innings pitched.

UP NEXT
Geneseo improves to 11-3 on the season and will take on Potsdam in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.
