Moore Gem Powers Softball Past RIT

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo sophomore pitcher Taylor Moore had a no-hit bid through 5.2 innings and finished with a complete-game victory as the Knights (17-9) swept Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in a doubleheader Tuesday evening, 2-1 and 6-2.

GAME ONE
Moore mowed through the Tigers' lineup over the first 5.2 innings, allowing one walk and no hits over that span. In the sixth, RIT connected on back-to-back hits to plate their only run of the game.

By that point, Geneseo had already built a two-run lead as sophomore infielder Kylie Papagelos and first-year infielder Maddison Tucker each drove in a run to give the Knights a 2-0 lead in the top of the sixth. Moore shut down the Tiger bats in the seventh to close out the contest and give Geneseo the win.

GAME TWO
Sophomores Danni Napoli and Anna Merante each went 2-for-3 to lead the Knights to a victory in game two. Merante and junior infielder Tori Fahie each had an RBI while Tucker plated two runs batted in.

Senior pitcher Alexis Kidder got the start and earned the win with two runs allowed over four innings of work. First-year pitcher Ashlyn Kersch earned the save with three scoreless innings of relief.

The Tigers scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning, but Geneseo regained the lead in the second with three runs. Fahie ripped an RBI single plating first-year catcher Hannah Elmer, and came around to score two batters later on an RIT error. On the next play, first-year Brooke Wolff worked herself into a rundown, allowing Kersch to score from third to put the Knights ahead 3-2.

Geneseo scored three more runs in the third with Tucker providing the big hit, a two-run double to right-center, making it 6-2. Kidder and Kersch combined to shut down the Tiger bats over the final four innings as the Knights earned the win and the sweep.

UP NEXT
Geneseo will return to conference play with a visit to Fredonia on Friday with game times scheduled for 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
