Men's Lacrosse Falls At St. John Fisher, 8-5

Box Score

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo sophomore attackman Kyle Wanamaker scored two goals while junior attackman Ryan Kelly added a goal and an assist, but it was host St. John Fisher digging out of a 4-0 third-quarter hole to defeat the Knights, 8-5, Thursday.

Geneseo (3-1) scored the lone goal of the first quarter after senior midfielder Michael Engstrom got loose on the left post and finished a crossing pass from Kelly at the 8:52 mark. The Knights notched the only goal of the second quarter after senior attackman Ryan Gulbransen spun off a defender and scored on a run from behind the cage inside the left post at 2:34.

Kelly opened the third quarter with a tally off a low bouncer from 10 yards in front of the Cardinal cage at 13:04 before Wannamaker scored an unassisted goal on a five-yard shot at 8:31. Fisher (5-1) came storming back with four goals in a three-minute span to knot the game, 4-4, with 3:44 remaining in the quarter.

The Cardinals took their first lead to open the fourth quarter on a man-up tally at 9:22 after the Knights were whistled for a slash. Wannamaker evened the score at 7:23, finishing off a run from behind the Fisher goal, but the Cardinals re-took the lead at 6:37 and scored two more unanswered tallies in the final 2:31 to put the game out of reach.

Fisher junior attackman Andrew Rosso was credited with three goals and an assist as the visiting Knights suffered their first loss of the season.

Geneseo returns to action on Saturday (March 25), hosting Olivet at 1:00 p.m.
