Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior attackman Tim Wright totaled four points on two goals and two assists but it was visiting Morrisville earning the 12-11 come-from-behind victory, Saturday, in NCAA Divsion III men's lacrosse action.
Senior attackman Joe Chiara tallied three goals while sophomore attackman Ryan Kelly and first-year attackman Zachary DeBottis had one goal and two assists apiece.
The game was off to a fast start as a total of six goals were scored within the first six minutes of the first quarter.
Wright put the Knights on the board first, scoring at 14:45 off an assist from junior midfielder Thomas Piazza. Just over a minute later, the Mustangs responded with a goal to tie the game, 1-1. At 11:22, Chiara found the back of the next off an assist from Kelly while junior midfielder Sean Tomkinson scored at 10:47 to give the hosts a two-goal edge, 3-1.
Following a goal by junior midfielder Dane Bentley off a pass from DeBottis to make it 4-1 with 9:51 on the first-quarter clock, Morrisville scored two-straight to cut its deficit to one, 4-3, heading into the second quarter.
At 12:46 in the second quarter, Chiara scored off an assist from junior midfielder Michael Engstrom but the Mustangs responded with a tally at 9:42 to bring their deficit back down to one, 5-4.
Wright and Kelly scored back-to-back goals for Geneseo at 5:54 and 3:56, respectively, to extend the lead to three, 7-4. Morrisville scored with eight seconds remaining in the half as the Knights held a 7-5 advantage at the break.
With 13:31 on the clock in the third quarter, DeBottis notched a goal off an assist from senior midfielder Brad Willows to make it 8-5. After two-straight scores by the visitors, including a man-up tally at 7:44, first-year midfielder Mark Purcell scored at 2:28 off an assist from Wright and first-year attackman Kyle Wanamaker added a man-up goal at 2:16 to bring Geneseo's lead back up to three, 10-7.
The Mustangs (1-0) opened the fourth quarter with three-consecutive goals to tie the game, 10-10, with 11:48 on the clock. At 4:06, Chiara scored off an assist from Engstrom to make it 11-10 but Morrisville recorded two-straight goals, including the eventual game-winner at 1:44, to come away with the non-conference win.
The Knights (2-1) return to action Wednesday, March 16, opposite Clarkson at the University of Tampa in Tampa, Fla. Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m.
