Softball Remains Unbeaten in SUNYAC Tournament After Defeating Oneonta, 2-0

Box Score

CORTLAND, N.Y.– The second-seeded SUNY Geneseo softball team remained undefeated in the SUNYAC tournament with a 2-0 win over third-seeded Oneonta on Friday. Junior pitcher Mikayla Moore stranded 10 Red Dragon base runners in recording the shutout. Junior Cat Krok had the game-winning RBI with a second-inning double.

Geneseo (27-10) will next play top-seed Cortland today at 3 p.m. Both teams are 2-0 in the double-elimination tournament. Brockport and Oneonta, the other teams still alive, each have one loss and will also play this afternoon.

The Knights, ranked third in the Northeast Region, struck for a pair in the bottom of the second. First-year Emily Martin drew a base on balls and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by junior Jenna Phillips. Krok followed with a double to right field, scoring Martin. Krok scored an unearned run later in the inning on a dropped fly ball off the bat of senior Katie Muller.

Moore (11-3) made the two-run lead stand up, even though Oneonta (25-13) put runners on base in every inning but one. The Red Dragons loaded the bases with two out in the top of the first, but failed to score. In the second, Oneonta had runners on second and third with the top of the order up, but Moore struck out the last two hitters of the inning. The Knights' pitcher also recorded key outs in the third, when the Red Dragons had two on with one out, and in the sixth, when she recorded the last two outs with a runner on third base.

The two wins give the Knights their best start in the SUNYAC tournament since 2003. The team has captured 24 of its last 25 games and its 27 victories are the most since the 2004 squad won 28 games.
