Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo sophomore attackman Tim Wright totaled four points on two goals and two assists to lead the Knights but it was Brockport taking the 10-6 victory in State University of New York of Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action, Wednesday afternoon.
Senior attackman Andre Keating had two goals and an assist while senior midfielder Zach Yehl and junior midfielder Joe Chiara each added a goal in the setback.
Geneseo (5-8, 1-4 SUNYAC) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after Keating found the back of the net at 13:09 in the first quarter followed by a goal from Wright at 9:03. After back-to-back Golden Eagle tallies tied the game, 2-2, Keating scored at 4:02 to give the Knights a 3-2 advantage that held for the remainder of the period.
At 14:38 in the second quarter, Brockport (8-6, 3-2 SUNYAC) sophomore midfielder Brendan Fitzgerald scored on a man-up opportunity to tie the game at three. With 11:43 on the clock, the Goldens Eagles scored to take their first lead of the game. After another tally by the visitors at 1:47 to make it 5-3, Wright scored into the lower right corner of the net with just under a minute left in the quarter to cut the deficit to one. However, Brockport answered with a goal off the ensuing face-off to hold a 6-4 edge at halftime.
The Golden Eagles recorded four goals and shut out the Knights in the third quarter to take a 10-4 lead going into the final period of play.
Geneseo held Brockport scoreless in the fourth quarter but were only able to get on the scoreboard twice. At 2:37, a man-up goal from Chiara made it 10-5 as Yehl tacked on the final goal of the game with 1:45 on the clock.
Prior to the game, the Knights honored former teammate, Alex Davis, who passed away last spring. At halftime, Keating, Yehl and fellow seniors, Steve Aziz, Steven Cregan, Matthew Emmenegger, Cory Gleasman, Alex Howell, Brent Lawless, Patrick O'Brien, Sam Thompson and Parker Weeks were honored for their contributions to the program in a brief ceremony.
Weeks finished tied for a game-high with seven ground balls while first-year goalie Michael Yehl made 16 saves.
Geneseo will play at Oswego this Saturday at 4 p.m. in its regular-season finale.
