Box Score MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo senior attackman Steven Cregan, senior midfielder Zach Yehl and sophomore midfielder Michael Engstrom each scored two goals to lead the Knights to an 8-4 victory at Morrisville, Saturday afternoon.
Geneseo posted three-consecutive goals in the first three minutes of play to take an early lead. After a goal by Cregan at 13:30 and Yehl at 12:49, Yehl tallied another score at 11:15 to give the Knights a 3-0 advantage which held into the second period.
At 14:13 in the second quarter, Engstrom found the back of the net to give Geneseo a 4-0 lead. The Mustangs responded with a man-up goal at 8:18 to make it a 4-1 game. With seven seconds remaining in the half, Cregan tallied another goal to give the Knights a 5-1 edge at the break.
At the 4:03 mark in the third quarter, Morrisville scored a goal to cut its deficit to three, 5-2. Geneseo responded with a goal by senior midfielder Steve Aziz with just over a minute to play to take a 6-2 advantage into the final quarter.
Sophomore attackman Tim Wright scored at 13:29 in the fourth quarter to give the Knights a five-goal advantage, 7-2. The hosts made it 7-3 with 8:17 on the clock but Engstrom tacked on another goal to put the visitors up, 8-3. The Mustangs (1-1) would tally more goal with just under two minutes left in the game.
Geneseo (3-0) returns to action next Friday, March 13th, opposite Wells in a game to be played at RIT at 12:30 p.m.
