Box Score POTSDAM, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo senior attackmen Steven Cregan and Andre Keating each tallied two goals but it was host Potsdam taking the 8-7 win in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action, Saturday, in a game played at Clarkson University.
The Bears (4-2, 1-0 SUNYAC) opened the game with three-straight goals to take a 3-0 lead at 8:03 in the first quarter. At the two-minute mark, junior midfielder Joe Chiara scored a goal to put the Knights on the board, 3-1.
At 12:58 in the second quarter, Potsdam first-year attackman Dalston Day recorded his second goal of the game to give the hosts a 4-1 edge. Geneseo responded 52 seconds later as Keating scored off an assist from first-year midfielder Andrew Cummings. The Bears' 4-2 advantage held for the remainder of the half.
After a Potsdam goal at 10:23 in the third quarter, senior attackman Cory Gleasman scored unassisted to make it 5-3 at 8:36. The Bears added another score with 4:03 on the clock to take a 6-3 lead into the final quarter.
Cregan scored at 7:58 in the fourth quarter to cut the Knights' deficit to two, 6-4, but a score from junior midfielder Pat Bonafede just under a minute later made it 7-4. Senior midfielder Steve Aziz and Keating scored at 2:56 and 2:32, respectively, to bring Geneseo within one, 7-6.
Potsdam recorded a goal with 56 seconds on the clock to make it 8-6 but Cregan scored 22 seconds later to bring the Knights back within one. Geneseo won the ensuing face-off but time expired before the visitors could tack on another goal.
The Knights (4-3, 0-1 SUNYAC) return to action Wednesday, April 1st, opposite RIT at 4 p.m.
