Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo senior midfielder Steve Aziz and senior attackman Steven Cregan each tally two goals to lead the Knights to an 11-7 victory over Clarkson in a game played at RIT, Sunday.
After a goal by junior midfielder Joe Chiara at 5:52 in the first period, the Golden Knights tied it up with 3:53 on the clock. First-year midfielder Andrew Cummings scored a goal at 2:21 to give the Knights a 2-1 edge into the second period.
Goals by senior attackman Andre Keating and sophomore midfielder Brad Willows put the hosts ahead, 4-1, with 12:14 remaining in the second. Clarkson cut its deficit to two with 11:48 on the clock, but a score from Cregan made it 5-2 at 5:15. Golden Knights sophomore midfielder Ryan St. Croix scored with five seconds to play as Geneseo took a 5-3 edge into halftime.
Aziz scored at the 6:16 mark to give the Knights a 6-3 advantage. After another St. Croix tally, goals by senior attackman Cory Gleasman and Cregan at 2:55 and 2:08, respectively, made it 8-4 entering the final quarter.
At 10:28, Aziz scored to extend Geneseo's lead to five, 9-4, but Clarkson responded with two-straight tallies to make it 9-6 with 8:07 remaining in the game. A goal from sophomore midfielder Michael Engstrom and a man-up score by junior attackman Ryan Gulbransen to make it 11-6 with 4:20 on the clock sealed the win for the Knights.
Geneseo (2-0) returns to action this Saturday (March 7) with a match-up at Morrisville scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
