Box Score WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – SUNY Genseo senior attackman Steven Cregan and sophomore attackman Tim Wright each tallied two goals to lead the Knights to a 7-5 victory at Lycoming (Pa.) in their season opener, Wednesday afternoon.
Trailing, 1-0, with 3:01 to play in the first period, senior midfielder Steve Aziz tallied a goal to even the score. At the 1:27 mark, Wright scored to give Geneseo a 2-1 edge that held for the remainder of the quarter.
The Warriors (0-1) tallied three-straight goals to take a 4-2 lead with 5:50 on the clockn in the second period. The Knights responded with back-to-back unassisted goals by Cregan at 3:41 and 2:54 to tie the game at four. Wright found the back of the net at 1:27 to give the visitors a 5-4 edge that held into the third period.
After a Lycoming score on a man-up opportunity at 12:24, a tally from junior attackman Ryan Gulbransen gave the Knights a 6-5 lead with 9:27 left in the period. Despite taking 11 shots in the third, Geneseo headed into the final 15 minutes of play with a slim one-goal advantage.
At 3:04 in the fourth period, senior attackman Cory Gleasman scored to put the Knights up, 7-5. Geneseo out-shot the Warriors, 38-21, and held them to two shots in the final period to secure the win.
The Knights (1-0) are scheduled to open its home slate this Sunday (March 1) against Clarkson at 2 p.m. at RIT.
