GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo's softball team dropped both ends of its State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) opening doubleheader to visiting Oneonta, falling 5-1 in the opener, before coming up short, 9-2, in the night cap, Thursday afternoon at Vic Raschi Field.  

Senior Sam Trapasso and junior Ashley Fillmore fueled the Knights' offense in the doubleheader, but couldn't prevent Geneseo from falling to 3-7 on the season and 0-2 in conference play. 

In the home opener, Trapasso knocked in the Knights lone run, going 1-3, while Fillmore went 2-3, including a triple, with a run and a stolen base. But Oneonta's two rallies in the fifth and seventh innings allowed the Red Dragons to maintain a lead throughout the entire game. 

Sophomore Mikayla Moore recorded the loss, striking out six and allowing five earned runs and six walks in 6.1 innings. 

Sophomore Katie Brennan took the mound for the remaining two-thirds of the inning, striking out two and walking one. 

In the second game, Fillmore hit a solo homer – her first home run on the season – to jumpstart Geneseo's offense in the third inning. Trapasso – who went 3-for-4 – put together a double shortly after to bring in junior Sami Brown. Sophomore Cat Krok and Brown added offensive support, both tallying a double. 

The Knights wouldn't earn any more runs past the third inning. Oneonta, though, went through three Geneseo pitchers – first junior Corrin Spallone, who takes the loss after allowing six hits and striking out one in 1.1 innings, then Brennan (four hits, two earned runs, two walks in 3.2 innings) and first-year Alexis Kidder (one hit in two innings). 

Geneseo is scheduled to host doubleheaders with Buffalo State (3/5 p.m.) and Fredonia (12/2 p.m.) on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
