Box Score 2 POTSDAM, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo earned a 9-6 victory over Potsdam in the opening game of a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) doubleheader, Friday afternoon.
The Knights started the day with a 9-6 extra-inning victory that saw the Knights plate five runs in the eighth inning, before shutting out the bears, 6-0, the second game to earn the sweep.
GAME 1 – GENESEO 9, POTSDAM 6 (8 INN.)
Geneseo sophomore shortstop Jenna Phillips went 3-for-3 with three RBI on a home run in the top of the eighth inning to break a 4-4 tie and lead the Knights to victory, 9-6, in the opener.
Junior second baseman Jenna Reilley also added a two-run shot two batters after Phillips as the Knights plated five runs in the eighth inning. The Bears would score two runs with two outs in the bottom of the eighth on a home run by Alex Lerman, but junior pitcher Corrin Spallone would strikeout the final Potsdam batter to squash the comeback bid and improve to 10-3 on the season after picking up the complete-game victory.
Senior third baseman Elise Porreca led off the fourth inning with a solo home run that staked the Knights to a 3-1 lead. Phillips would make it a 4-1 game with a sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth inning, but the Bears would answer with three runs in the bottom of the inning to knot the game, 4-4 and force extra innings.
GAME 2 – GENESEO 6, POTSDAM 0
Geneseo sophomore pitcher Mikayla Moore earned the complete-game victory, holding Potsdam to four hits while striking out five to earn the shutout and improve to 6-4 on the season.
Geneseo broke the game open with a five-run fourth inning. First-year right fielder Alyssa Presutti knocked in a pair of runs with a double, before Reilley traded places with her with a double of her own. Junior catcher Ashley Fillmore followed with a two-run home run to left center to cap the Knights' two-out rally.
Geneseo plated an unearned run in the fifth inning on a pair of Bears errors for the 6-0 final.
The Knights (16-13, 9-6 SUNYAC) close out the regular season with a SUNYAC doubleheader on Saturday at Plattsburgh. First-pitch is slated for 12:00 p.m. with the Cardinals.
