Geneseo got on the board with a pair of runs in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by first-year first baseman Abby Dennett that scored junior designated player Ashley Fillmore, who had led off the game with a single to right. Brown, who followed Fillmore's hit with a double to left and advanced to third on Dennett's sacrifice, scored on a wild pitch for the Knights' second run.
Alfred answered with a pair of runs in the top of a third inning that included two Knights' errors, and took the lead for good on a home run in the fifth inning by catcher Jasmine Picini, who finished 3-for-4 in the game. Alfred would score a run in the second inning on back-to-back wild pitches, and another in the third on a RBI double by left fielder Samijo Scheer before Geneseo answered with two runs in the bottom of the third.
