GAME 1 - GENESEO 3, BROCKPORT 2
Junior pitcher Corrin Spallone threw seven strong innings to earn the complete-game opening victory, scattering six hits while striking out four. Junior catcher Ashley Fillmore went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored to lead the offense as the Knights scored a run in the second, third and fourth innings.
Geneseo got on the board in the top of the second inning on an RBI-single by sophomore second baseman Jenna Phillips, who knocked in sophomore right fielder Mikayla Moore from second.
In the third inning, following back-to-back one-out singles by Fillmore and junior shortstop Sami Brown, Fillmore stole second and scored on a sacrifice fly by Moore to make it a two-run lead for the visitors.
First-year first baseman Abby Dennett led off the fourth by getting hit by a pitch and came around to score on a double to center field by junior Kayleigh Blersch for the Knights' third run.
Brockport would answer with two runs in the bottom of the fourth on a pair of doubles, but Spallone would avoid trouble the rest of the way to improve to 8-2 on the season.
GAME 2 - BROCKPORT 9, GENESEO 1 (6 INN.)
Brockport bounced back in the second game, scoring two runs in the first inning and three more in the third inning. Geneseo would get on the board with a run in the sixth inning, but the Golden Eagles closed the game out with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to close the door.
After sophomore designated player Katie Brennan led off the sixth with a double to left, first-year pinch-runner Melissa Belsky advanced to third on a ground-out by sophomore third baseman Cat Krok. Dennett followed with a single to right to knock in the Knights' only run and register her seventh RBI in her last 13 at-bats.
Spallone was saddled with the loss after yielding five hits and two runs into the second inning. Moore came on in relief, allowing seven runs (six earned) on five hits.
Geneseo hosts Alfred on Monday and RIT on Wednesday in a pair of non-league doubleheaders slated for 3:00 p.m. first-pitches both days.
