Box Score 2 GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo softball team split a doubleheader with visiting Fredonia on Thursday in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) softball play at Vic Raschi Field.
Game 1 - Geneseo 7, Fredonia 2
Junior catcher Ashley Fillmore went 3-for-3 with a double while sophomore Mikayla Moore went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI to lead the Knights to the win in the opener. Junior Corrin Spallone pitched a complete-game three-hitter with 11 strikeouts to earn her sixth win of the year.
Geneseo scored three runs in the first inning. Following a walk by junior Sami Brown, a two-out triple by Moore plated the Knights first run of the game. Moore came into score on a throw to catch Senior Elise Porreca, who drew a walk to get on base, stole second. Then first-year Abby Dennett drove Porecca in with a double down the left field line to give the Knights the three-run edge.
Geneseo added a run in the second on a sacrifice fly by first-year Alyssa Presutti and another in the fourth on an RBI triple by sophomore Jenna Phillips to make it a 5-0 game after four innings.
In the top of the sixth inning, Fredonia scored its only runs on a single to center field by Cherise Gunnel and a sacrifice fly by Jess Lauck, but Geneseo would answer with two more runs in the bottom half of the inning on RBI singles to left by Moore and Porecca for the final runs of the game.
Game 2 - Fredonia 5, Geneseo 4
Dennet went 1-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI but a four-run Fredonia third was the difference as the Blue Devils earned the split.
In the fifth inning, an RBI single by junior Jenna Reilley put the Knights on the board before Geneseo added three runs in the bottom of the sixth including a two run single by Dennet.
However, Fredonia put the game out of reach with one more run in the top of the seventh en route to the victory.
Sophomore Katie Brennan took the loss in relief to fall to 0-3 this season.
Geneseo plays a doubleheader again tomorrow at Alfred State with a 3:00 p.m. start time.
