Box Score 2 GENESEO, N.Y. – The SUNY Geneseo softball team split a doubleheader with visiting New Paltz, Sunday, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) softball play at Vic Raschi Field.
GAME 1 – GENESEO 7, NEW PALTZ 5
A seven-run Geneseo third inning was the difference while junior pitcher Corrin Spallone picked up her fifth victory (5-2) of the season after allowing five runs (three earned) on four hits with five strikeouts.
After New Paltz scored a pair of runs in the top of the third, four Hawk errors helped Geneseo plate seven unearned run for in the decisive bottom half of the inning. Senior third baseman Elise Porreca registered a two-run double, before sophomore designated player Katie Brennan knocked in another run on an infield single to account for three of the runs.
GAME 2 – NEW PALTZ 1, GENESEO 0
New Paltz pitcher Amber Carozza earned the complete-game decision, scattering six hits while striking out three Knights to pick up the victory.
Geneseo stranded eight total runners during the game, including three in the second inning when Carozza pitched out of a based-loaded, one-out jam.
Carozza also scored the game's only run after drawing a leadoff walk to start the fifth inning and coming around on a double down the left field line by catcher Shayna Burgess for the game's only run.
Geneseo sophomore Mikayla Moore (4-4) was the hard-luck loser, striking out six Hawks while allowing one run on six hits in seven innings of work.
Following a non-conference road trip on Tuesday to play twice at Alfred State at 3:00 p.m., Geneseo (9-9, 6-4 SUNYAC) will host Fredonia on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. for a SUNYAC doubleheader.
