Box Score 2 OSWEGO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo swept two games over host Oswego, Saturday, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) softball action. The Knights (8-8, 5-3 SUNYAC) pounded out a season-best 13 hits to earn a 10-2 victory in the opener, before putting together a 14-hit showing in a 9-4 win in game-2.
Senior third baseman Elise Porreca went 2-for-4 with a third inning grand slam to lead the offense in game-one, before senior first baseman Sam Trapasso went 3-for-5 with a home run and five RBI in game-two to complete the sweep.
GAME 1 – GENESEO 10, OSWEGO 2
Porreca went 2-for-4 with a third-inning grand slam to lead Geneseo to victory in the opener. Sophomore pitcher Corrin Spallone allowed two runs on six hits while striking out six to earn her fourth victory of the season.
The Knights got on the board in the second inning on a two-RBI double by sophomore second baseman Jenna Phillips before breaking the game open with six more runs in the third. Junior catcher Ashley Fillmore led off with an infield single and advanced to third on a double by Brown. Trapasso drew a walk to load the bases, before back-to-back singles by first-year left fielder Alyssa Presutti and sophomore designated player Mikayla Moore scored two runs. Porecca cleared the bases with a home run to center field to put the Knights up 8-0.
Oswego got on the board with a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning, but Geneseo would answer with and RBI-single by senior designated player Kayleigh Troia in the top of the fifth to make it a 9-1 lead. The Lakers again scored on a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to stay alive, but following a scoreless sixth inning, Geneseo scored one final run on an RBI single by junior shortstop Sami Brown en route to the eight-run victory.
GAME 2 – GENESEO 9, OSWEGO 4
Trapasso went 3-for-5 with a home run and five RBI, while Presutti finished 3-for-4 with a double as the Knights pounded out a season-high 14 hits to clinch the double-header sweep at Oswego.
Trapasso got her big game started with an infield single in the first inning that plated Fillmore. Oswego responded with a home run in the bottom of the inning, but a four-run second inning gave the Knights a 5-1 edge. After base hits by junior second baseman Jenna Reilley and junior designated player Katie Muller, junior left fielder Abby Weiss loaded the bases after Reilley was called safe on a play at third. Reilley scored on an infield pop-up by Fillmore, before Brown singled to left to plate Muller. On the next play, Weiss scored from third after the Oswego catcher made a throwing error trying to throw out Brown at second, before Trapasso knocked in Brown with a single to left.
Oswego would score three runs on four hits in the bottom of the fourth inning to pull within two runs, 5-3, but a four-run sixth inning for Geneseo put the game out of reach. After Fillmore drew a lead-off walk, Brown reached on a bunt single and both runners advanced a base after a throwing error by the Lakers' first baseman. Trapasso cleared the bases with her second home run in two days to bring three more runs across. Junior center fielder Kayleigh Blersch brought home the game's final run on an RBI ground-out as the inning closed with the visitors up, 9-3.
Moore picked up the victory after throwing 5.1 innings of relief, yielding seven hits and three earned runs while striking out five to run her record to 4-3 this spring.
Geneseo returns to action on Sunday in its third SUNYAC double header in as many days as New Paltz pays a visit to Vic Raschi Field for a noon first-pitch. The twin bill was originally slated for March 29th was rescheduled due to snowy and unplayable field conditions.
