Box Score ROCHESTER, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior attackman Sam Thompson scored three goals and junior attackman Steven Cregan added two, but it was visiting Morrisville holding on for a 9-8 victory over the Knights, Saturday, in a game played at Monroe Community College.
Geneseo (0-1) jumped out to a 2-0 lead on tallies by Cregan at 7:41 and Thompson at 6:07, but the Mustangs answered with two goals of their own in the final six minutes to tie the game, 2-2, after the first period.
Geneseo scored three unanswered goal in the second, including two in the final three minutes, to lead 5-2 at intermission. Cregan tallied an unassited tally at 10:01, before Thompson scored a man-up goal at 2:22 and first-year midfielder Sean Tomkinson scored at 1:28.
Morrisville forged into the lead with five unanswered goals of its own to build a 7-5 edge with 2:26 to play in the third. Knights' sophomore midfielder Joe Chiara scored with 1:39 on the clock, to make it a one-goal game heading into the fourth.
Morrisville scored a man-up goal at 13:59, but junior attackman Andre Keating answered at 13:46 for Geneseo. Morrisville scored at 11:00 to re-take a two-goal lead, before Thompson completed the hat-trick with 8:00 remaining to pull back within one, 8-7. Geneseo was unable to tally the equalizer the rest of the way to suffer a loss in its first game of the season.
Geneseo returns to action on Wednesday, taking on Lycoming (Pa.) at 4:00 p.m. in another game scheduled to be played at Monroe Community College.
