Softball Falls Twice On Opening Day In Orlando

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CLERMONT, Fla. – SUNY Geneseo's softball team started its season Sunday with a two losses at the Dot Richardson Spring Games.

The Knights opened the scoring against Allegheny College, but the Gators quickly responded and maintained its lead to win, 4-3.

Sophomore Mikayla Moore led the Knights going 3-4, including a double, and a RBI. Moore also took control from the mound, striking out six Gators in six innings.

The game remained scoreless until the top of the fifth inning when Geneseo's junior Ashley Fillmore scored on an error by Allegheny's senior Maureen Pallone. A play later, junior Sam Brown scored on fielder's choice off of senior Sam Trapasso's at-bat, giving Geneseo a 2-0 lead.

Allegheny strung together four hits and capitalized on a fielding error by Geneseo's junior second-baseman Jenna Reilley to take a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth.

Moore's late seventh-inning double brought in junior Katie Muller, pinch running for Trapasso, but it wasn't enough for Geneseo to emerge victorious in its season-opener.

In the second game against Manchester University, the Knights fell once again, 8-1.

The Spartans exploded with six runs in the first inning, taking advantage of a couple Geneseo throwing errors and a wild pitch.

Sophomore Katie Brennan allowed six runs before Muller replaced her on the mound. In the remaining 6.2 innings, Muller struck out three and walked one.

Fillmore knocked in Brown in the bottom of the first – what would be the Knights' lone run throughout the game.

Manchester added two runs in the top of the second, again capitalizing on Geneseo errors.

The Knights continue their spring break trip on Monday, taking on Otterbein and Tufts at 1 p.m ET. and 5 p.m. ET, respectively.
