Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo sophomore goalkeeper Logan Calvey made five saves to preserve a 0-0 shutout versus visiting Rochester Institute of Technology, Wednesday afternoon, at Saratoga Field.
"The result is a bit disappointing because I thought we played well enough to win," said head coach Dominic Oliveri. "We had a lot of solid opportunites throughout the game, but we just couldn't find the net. Credit RIT for playing tough. We just have to find a way to finish some of the chances next time."
Scoring chances abounded for both teams in the first half, but neither could find the net. RIT (5-4-2) controlled much of play for the first 20 minutes, but the Knights (5-6-1) had the better of play in the second part of the opening period.
In the 30th minute, senior forward Ryan Yurchak put a solid shot on goal from inside 10 yards out, but RIT goalkeeper Mark Reeves made a nice save on the goal line to fend off the attempt. Less than two minutes later, junior back Tyler Chauncey came forward and got loose for another hard attempt with Reeves out of place, but a Tiger defender was there to make the save on the goal line.
Both teams traded blows in the second half, but neither team could break through as the game went into overtime.
Three minutes into the first overtime, senior back Pat Lynch put a solid strike on a free kick from 25 yards out, but Lynch was there to deflect the ball out. Sophomore forward Stanley Egbuchulum came up with the ball and had another shot on goal snuffed out by Lynch.
In the second overtime, Calvey came up with two saves to on a pair of solid RIT scoring opportunities, and another Tiger shot from space sailed over the cross bar, as the match ended in the scoreless tie.
Geneseo returns to action on Saturday, hosting No. 6 Brockport at 1:00 p.m. in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play.
