GENESEO, N.Y. – The SUNY Geneseo men's soccer team hosted St. Lawrence University this evening at College Stadium, but the Knights couldn't find an answer for a fast start by the Saints, falling 2-0 and dropping to 1-1-0 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- St. Lawrence struck just 64 seconds into the match to grab an early 1-0 lead. Geneseo answered by carving out a string of chances of its own, as Owen Burke fired a shot just over the bar in the 17th minute and Michael Ruggiero followed with a look of his own three minutes later.
- The Knights kept the pressure on into the second half of the opening period, with Jace DiPalo forcing a diving save in the 27th minute before ripping another attempt just over the crossbar moments later. St. Lawrence extended its lead to 2-0 in the 29th minute, but Geneseo continued to create, with Ruggiero and Alfonso Vito each getting off shots before the break.
- The Knights carried that same energy into the second half, as Burke drew another diving save in the 51st minute and Francesco Visone, Aidan Lodie and DiPalo all tested the St. Lawrence defense down the stretch. Despite out-cornering St. Lawrence 7-2 on the night, Geneseo couldn't find the equalizer and fell 2-0.
