Men's Soccer Falls to Ithaca

GENESEO, N.Y. – The SUNY Geneseo men's soccer team hosted Ithaca College this afternoon at College Stadium, playing the majority of the match down a man after an early red card but battling to the final whistle before falling 1-0 and dropping to 1-2-0 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Geneseo was forced to adjust just three minutes in after picking up a red card, but the Knights held firm defensively through the opening half hour. Charlie Sorensen had the best look of the period, putting a shot on frame that Ithaca was able to save.
  • Ithaca broke through in the 50th minute to grab a 1-0 lead, but Geneseo continued to push forward a man down. Jace DiPalo tested the Ithaca goalkeeper with a shot on frame in the 57th minute, and Eric Carnes fired a pair of attempts on frame later in the half.
  • The Knights kept pressing into the closing minutes, with Alfonso Vito and DiPalo both getting off looks in the final 10 minutes as Geneseo searched for an equalizer, but the Knights couldn't find the back of the net and fell 1-0.
